When a policy decision meets practice realities: The case of cancer survivorship care and rehabilitation needs assessment

Abstract

The aim of this study is to establish a research basis for systematic needs assessment of cancer survivorship care and rehabilitation needs in patients in hospital and primary care settings. The study consists of four studies with the following aims:

Study 1) To describe specific survivorship care and rehabilitation needs and plans as stated by patients with cancer at hospitals when diagnosed and when primary care survivorship care and rehabilitation begins.

Study II) To analyze and describe healthcare professionals’ attitudes and perspectives on the complexities of cancer survivorship and rehabilitation needs assessment in a shared cancer care context.

Study III) To analyze and describe patients who completes a needs assessment in hospitals and primary care settings.

Study IV) To analyze and describe the patients' experiences of involvement in cancer survivorship and rehabilitation needs assessment.
